M HKA: the practice of Social interaction
M HKA, Antwerp, Belgium, 2025
The idea of M HKA: the practice of social interaction arosed spontaneously in response to protests against the proposed closure of M HKA and the redistribution of its collection among other museums. The dates of the Kyiv Biennial in Antwerp happened to coincide with a 24-hour protest held inside the museum, prompting the artist to immediately transform her usual workshop format into a spontaneous act of collective resistance.
After finding a suitable piece of fabric in the museum’s storage, Yaroslava turned the workshop into a gathering of social voices—inviting participants to write messages, reflections, and slogans in support of the institution. The resulting textile was later transformed into a dress, becoming a symbolic uniform of solidarity and resistance for the engaged community.
