Object for Długa, 35

Gdańsk Miasto Literatury, Gdansk, Poland, 2022

For many years, the building at 35 Dluga Street housed a center that promoted Soviet and then Russian imperial culture. Curator Anna Lazar initiated a cultural exorcism session, filling it with the voices of Ukrainian artists and reflections on their war experience.

The 6x4 meters object made of compressed second hand all shades of white T-shirts and dark brown cardigans as a camouflage continuation of the wall and dominant wooden beams of the original interior of this building. The main idea was to play with the stage of the space left by russian cultural workers - all that layers of paint on the walls and broken wood elements. It’s also an ironical camouflage in the meaning of the place purpose - russian workers were using it as a disguised intelligence center as well.
